Frequently asked questions
To further understand what concrete has to offer as well as the benefits of our services, check out these answers to the most frequently asked questions.
What is a ready mix?
Ready mix or ready mixed concrete, also known as RMC, is a type of concrete that’s been mixed by the manufacturers to meet customers’ needs and is delivered to the client’s site as a pre-made product.
It’s composed of Portland cement, sand, rock, and water. It can also contain gravel and/or crushed stone. Other admixtures such as chemicals and minerals may also be added to the concrete mixture to further strengthen it.
What is short load?
Short load, or short load concrete, is the opposite of ready mix/ ready mixed concrete wherein the concrete is mixed on-site rather than delivered to the site already mixed.
These can be used for projects such as:
- Small slabs
- Garden walls
- Walkways
- Outdoor steps
- Patios
… and more. This is the type of concrete that’s usually used for residential or small-scale projects wherein smaller quantities of concrete are needed.
What strength do I need for my project?
When it comes to both small-scale and big-scale projects, you will need to determine the overall strength of your concrete for your needs. Other considerations would be the local and state laws as well as its ability to conform to the UBC.
For smaller-scale projects in residential areas such as walkways, driveways, and slabs, the minimum strength required is around 3000 psi or 3000 pounds per square inch. However, some projects require higher strength, around 4500 psi.
As a service of concrete delivery San Antonio, we can give you recommendations on what strength level your project will need, depending on your needs and the local and state laws and regulations.
How many yards does a concrete truck hold?
This varies, depending on the size of the concrete truck. Concrete trucks typically weigh anywhere between 20,000 to 30,000 pounds and are capable of carrying at least 40,000 pounds of concrete.
Nevertheless, this will still depend on just how big the truck is. The typically used concrete truck has a general capacity of holding around 8 cubic yards worth of concrete. However, some can hold as much as 10 yards per truck.
